LVC 1

Foreign Languages and Culture 1

Description: Each teacher may adopt a variety of teaching methods tailored to the learning objectives and in line with the four language skills. Each student’s commitment both during and outside class is essential for progress. For each 1h30 class, approximately 1 hour of individual work is required.

Learning outcomes: At the end of the course, students will have improved their ability to communicate in an international professional, academic or personal context.

Evaluation methods: Achieving or maintaining level C1 (CEFR) by the end of the engineering studies is compulsory but does not replace the assessment within English courses.

These courses are assessed each semester, taking the following into account:

  • class attendance (poor attendance may result in a mark of 0/20)
  • active participation in class
  • completion of all assigned activities and homework
  • quality of the work done
  • progress in line with the objectives set out in the course syllabus
  • results in the various assignments

At the start of each semester, the teacher will specify the assessment methods and how the various criteria will be taken into account.

Students who do not meet the requirements for passing the language module (UE) at the end of the semester (see academic regulations) will be required to sit an assessment tailored to their attendance record. A student who has attended classes regularly but has not passed their language module for the semester will sit a retake exam in order to demonstrate their mastery of the course content. If the attendance requirement is not met, the student will be awarded 0/20 and will not be eligible to sit a retake exam; the examination board will decide on their case.
